paint and shim questions

I have fitted the '30 CCPU cab pieces and found I needed 3 shims in the center block and one under the end blocks to get the doors aligned, my question is, can I leave out the end shims and just use two on the center blocks?

and

the wealth of information here is astounding but I must ask, why is it recommended to paint the cab with the doors off?

TIA
Greg

When you started this project, did you check the frame? It must be
flat on the top....from the front cross member too the rear one!

Greg, maybe the first question should be "how good of a painter are you?". THAT will likely answer your question.

It's my opinion that the middle shims on a pickup cab aren't used to align the cab. I only used the 2 cowl bolt locations and the rear cab bolts on each side to align my cab. When finished I filled the center bolt and body block area with enough shims to take up the space.

Here's a good discussion of the same process -
