Overheating

41, How about lets get back to original Henery, with a two bolt tming cover plate, and get ride of the adaptor plate and the cam extender?? all could be the cause of some off timing?? The propter bolts for the dist. to the timing cover plate bolts are sholder bolts, to put the dist at the right point. ( in timing wise ) or stright up. AND....whare are you getting the vacucum for the dist?? .. should be below the carb/manifolt, ....OLD....BILL

OOPPS.... Cansell me , just went back and re-read you opening statment . I though you were adapeting and crab dist (two bolt) dist. ...so please disreguard all I said.??? big oopss.... OLD....BILL

I don't know how the cam would get cocked?? It looks more like the cover was cocked. Put the normal gasket back on. G.M

Hopefully all fixed, I sent my distributor back to Skip and he reset the timing - so I won't fiddle with it again. Added Purple Ice to my 50/50 antifreeze. I drove it around the block and ran fine. I noticed an exhaust leak with the timing change that I couldn't hear before. But everything seems OK and no leaks. I have yet to try highway driving but it's 95 today so I'll wait for another day.

This is how a PO tried to fix overheating:
