Overheating...Fixed!

For now anyway. Whoever said radiator was right. I fretted over buying a new radiator and waiting 3-4 weeks for a Walker at $900. These are made in USA and have good reviews on HAMB: www.cgj.com

Also sells as Brice Thomas Radiator on e$ay. Made to order, one week to my front door and $370 including shipping. The thing is a work of art, it could go on the living room wall. I know its not OEM, a coat of black paint would help. I took it out this afternoon in 90* weather and running down the road the temp stayed glued to under 3/4, I thought the gauge was broken!

They couldn't have recored the old one? I had my heater done and inquired at that time I think he told me $300 for the radiator, but that the core itself may have a bit of difference in appearance. I'm in CA, not that the radiator you got isn't a good one, because it's looks solid, and looks to be all aluminum, and at a good price.

Problem with old rads is that the corrision over the years insulates the fins from tubes and no amount of cleaning will fix. Learned this playing with T's which do not have water pumps. My T's have been up Mt Rushmore, Lookout Mtn and many other hard pulls and do not heat with new cores. How about posting contact info on the Thomas company, they sure look like a good alternative to Brassworks and Walker.

I re-cored my '35 radiator and it cost $605.....still get upset when I think about it...wish I would have known about your guy....Matt in Alameda

Hard to find someone that is willing to re-core the old radiators. Had the one in my F1 done and it was close to $300 which I was fine with the price. But leaked at the bottom seam he bent up the fins on the new core and got the side straps soldered to the top tank crooked...ugh! I've got another f1 radiator I'd like to have re-cored but don't know who will do a good job.

Some times modern technology is better. I understand trying to keep a car period correct, but if something new will improve the drivability and enjoyment of your old car, I'm all for it.

I am having my `51 F1 radiator re-cored with copper as I write. It won't be cheap but I was floored when the shop owner told me for another $10 I could have another row of tubes(?) added, giving me 33% more core! I know the total cooling won't be 33% more but it will help.

sounds like the deal. I paid 150 just to have my walker cleaned & leaks repaired. I shall keep this outfit in mind for the next repair job

Then the hood no longer fits. But we love our old cars .

Ted,
I had a big issue with that on my `35. Never once thought about it. I had to take it back twice for alignment.

My original radiator in the picture was recored, $600 doesn't include a coat of paint apparently.

It worked fine in January (2010) to break in the cam. But I didn't have the car on the road until this year.
