overheating '29

After all this, I'm ready for a test run, and the battery wont take a charge. Now if I could get all of you guys here at my house, maybe we could get the '29 running right, (and cool). I'll have to see about a new battery tomorrow. Any recommendations?

Just a basic group 1 battery, available just about everywhere. Napa, sears, etc. When u install "+" ground, and clean all ground connections thoroughly.

How do you mean the battery won't take a charge? Does the meter on the battery charger stay at 0? Are you clamping to the battery posts, or clamping to the batter cables? May be a poor connection. How old is the battery? Have you done a hydrometer check on the battery?

Thanks for everyone's replies about overheating. Yesterday a friend and I replaced the head gasket(copper) with a new composite type from Mike's, and also removed the air filter assembly. Drove it about 30 miles as fast as I dared on these 2 lane roads. No overheating ! Timing is dead on. Checked the plugs before and after the changes. Before, they were black, especially around the outside edges; after the changes, the plugs were a light brown color, which tells me that due to the air filter, it was running rich. So afr, looks like the problem is solved. By the way, this car has a new radiator, but as a precaution against grease, I cleaned it out twice with Dawn liquid.

Even after your radiator seeks it's own level due to expansion, the water churning into upper tank will cause dabs of water to be splashed into the overflow tube and bit by bit you get too low on water.
Solve this by dropping a nail, into the overflow tube, with a head that's larger than the tube.
This will act as a vibrating splash shield and WON'T pressurize the sysem.
