Overhaulin'

To Brent & LukeDahlinger,

Right on! Right on!:D The TV is nick named the Idiot Box for a very
good reason!

AMF/Bob-A:p

Yeah the shows severely stretch the boundaries of reality. But their purpose is to sell the sponsors product and to entertain and they do that quite well. Sometimes they show their ignorance when they start giving too much knowledge regarding an item and it's obvious they don't know what they're talking about. But really isn't that what television is all about. I like some of these shows. I think they're just fine for a person who isn't in the best of health and not real mobile. It causes some of us to imagine things and wonder what could have been. Earlier someone said something about that fat piece of crap Boyd Coddington. As a human being the guy couldn't have been a bigger loser. Another one is the owner of the gun shop named Gunsmoke from Colorado. He's ripped so many people off so bad I can't believe he's not in jail. But when it comes to watching these show or something else on television I'd rather watch these obviously phony shows than some of the crap on the movie channels. So when the winters last 7 months like they do in Minnesota and your health keeps you from being able to get out as much as you like it becomes the hobbies and the TV, and a few good books of fiction.

garrisonm89, funny you should mention that gun show. I saw it for the first time today and thought the very same thing! They bought a bunch of guns from a mans estate from his son.
Picked up about two dozen long guns for about 14,000 and then bragged of how just 5 would sell for that amount, the rest profit. The other show that the owners rip people off is Pawn Stars in Detroit. Slease bags in the first degree! At least the guys in Vegas seem to care about giving a good deal and I like the experts that they bring in to talk about the items.

Pawn Stars is in Vegas, Hardcore Pawn is in Detroit. Both shows suck.

What kind of dumbass takes rare stuff to a pawn shop for cash? You can't tell me these people have never heard of ebay, trade shows, etc etc.

Ha, ha ! Jeff, what Willy Wonka did you watch...Veronica ??
'Veruca Salt' ..."I want it NOW" ! All time favorite with the grandkids and big kids !!

Also funny thot... can you just imagine 'overhaulin' trying to get a four banger rebuilt with some of the (for visual) hopup goodies? I could just see the look on their face as they say...how many thousands of dollars and how long for the build ??
They get a cookie cutter type bowtie small block for $2500 on demand and time is money for shows like that. That's a couple of reasons why you will most likely NEVER see an A restored on such a show..IMO.

"BTW, did you know that the word 'Gullible' is not in the dictionary? If you don't believe, go look for it up for yourself!!"

Brent, it's in my dictionary and is spelled either "gullible" or "gullable". Let me guess.............you were seeing who is gullible!:D

A friend had some involvement with an episode of "Pickers" and he told me that the seller who let an item go for cheap got a big fee from the show for the use of his property. So he came out OK money-wise.

When someone gets their car overhauled on this show, who pays for it. Does the family have to pay or does the show. Wonder what it cost.
Brand new motor, transmission, new frame wrapped in plastic, seems everything is new. Sure wish they would do a Model A Ford. Would really like to see that done.

I'm sure that the show pays all the stuff and work that isn't covered by the sponsor's and contributors. It's probably the cheapest show that they could produce as far as out of pocket expense goes.

I was watching **** Stars I mean Pawn Stars after American Peckers Tues, nite when some guy brings in a Secret Service badge of some totally unknown character, and Rick started spouting off 'Yeah, Jim so-and-so was the Atty. General for the state of Rhode Island from about 1952-1955 and then he ......." Now, who in the hell knows something like THAT? Yes Virginia, SCRIPTED it is. And do you ever notice that the lead-in video of Pawn Stars almost always has a split-second shot of some good looking gal and her cleavage hanging out? That's to keep Joe Six-Pack watching.

J Howard McGrath was the Attorney General for the United States of America. I suspect that quite a few people who have read or studied American History would know this.

The negativity and social bias reflected in this thread and often on this site in general is amazing. To suggest that someone that watches these shows that depict our great hobby is somehow gullible, or of low IQ is equally amazing.

I wonder is some of you ever have any fun.......or do you get your jollies by announcing to the world that you are "in the know" about how this TV stuff operates.
