overdrive question

i have a 1950 mercury trans. will an overdrive from a 51-54 ford fit the trans i am talking about the o.d unit not the whole trans. as the 50 merk has the clutch release shaft in the case
 
Unfortunately, the only parts used on the '51 and later are the planetary gear, sun gear, and freewheel cam assy + a few other small parts. The problem area is the trans mainshaft, the OD mainshaft, and the housing itself. Keep looking for a 49-50 Merc OD trans.
 
Or you can look for a late 51 Mercury bell housing. It used the rotating equalizer shaft but has the narrow Borg Warner 4-bolt pattern that fits pre 51 Fords and the 51 & later Fords. I've seen them on flea-pay now and then.
