over drive system

At that price why not go with the Mitchell for a few $$ more? It's new, it's fully mechanical, and parts/rebuild are available!

well, yeah, that's the question a lot of folks will ask. Parts are available for Laycocks, unlike Borg Warners. I got my Laycock J series ( aka Volvo, but also MG, Jaguar, Austin Healy and others) about 8 years ago when they were selling for around 1200, pus another 100 for the oil sump. That was significantly less than the Mitchell, and at the time there was a long wait for a Mitchell. I have a Mitchell in one car, a Borg Warner in another. The simple flick of a switch used on the Laycock beats the others hands down. Its so easy to split a gear on an up or downshift... As Mike Meyers used to say, "its like buttah!!"

I gotta say, I love it and no extra gear shift lever in the front either.

No,you dont have to push in the clutch, these are a hydraulic shifting
its probably better for the driveline but you dont have to.:)

did you use the speedo port on the laycock od? did you use a ratio reducer to get the speedo to read correctly? ive solved the speedo port
by making a 7/8 threaded adapter, for std speedocable.:)

No need to clutch with a Laycock--either up or down. It shifts like an automatic trans. They may not be brand new, but they're the best, and they're nearly bulletlproof.

actually, the speedo cable is the only problem I have. It was made up to be adapted to a reducer, but I cannot find a local speedo shop that will do the work required to complete the adaption. I made up a small conversion tabe showing equivalent speeds in OD to the speedometer driven from the standard speedo port. By now I have it memorized. But it would be nicer to have it actually working. I sent you a private email.

well guys, the speedo adapter, ive got a bunch machined, you just remove the old speedo sleeve, use the original speedo gear and put the new sleeve in the overdrive and now you can use a std speedo cable, there not on my web site, just email me. GLENN :D
