I know this is not auto-related, but we old car guys are a clever bunch, and I'm hoping someone here might be able to lend their expertise....
( Particularly the folks that work in facilities maintenance ! )
Problem: I am dealing with a building with equipped a couple dozen Norton model 78 B/F ("pot-belly") door closers.
They are relatively recent in manufacture ( within the last 10-20 years ), and have lost enough oil that after a couple of operating strokes, they lose their damping action, and the heavy door slams.
I am trying to find a way to refill them; they have two end-plugs with holes forming a triangle. suggesting they will unscrew with the proper spanner, plus there is an adjusting screw on each end: one screw controls the back-check damping, the other screw controls sweep / latch speeds.
Norton (Assa-Abloy) tech support wasn't much help; they concurred that it "sounds like they're low on oil", but were at a loss to tell me how much oil was required, or where to put it in...
Anybody out there who works in facility maintenance that has run up against this and found a solution ?
( We don't have money in our budget to replace the closer units, which run several hundred dollars each.)
Thanks!
