OT: Made in U.S.A.

I went to the hardware store to buy a ceramic light fixture for my garage. The only thing they had was made in China. I asked if they didn't carry USA made. This 20-something, tattooed, pierced, green-haired clerk answered, "We don't make anything any more in this country, except celebrities and reality TV." Yep, you got that right, lad.

I like the stamps, but that time is gone, and it won't come back till America becomes a nation of manufacturing again. Plutocracy and minimum wage service jobs ain't gonna make it.

I hope this comment isn't too political. I don't mean to hijack or kill the thread.

The "Building a Nation' tag refers to China. And the USA, through it's governmental wisdom, is transfering all that we used to do to in bulding a nation, to China. I'm not sure where that leaves us - better, apparently; because it is our US Government that is 'aiding and abetting'. So it must be for our own good. I am not sure who we are to thank for the wisdom of our elected officials - but I suppose it is US !

Yes, Jim - I almost included that famous quote in my post. AND Ray Horton - what a guy ! I knew it was from the Pogo comic strip - but to know the year ! Now THAT's a trivia guru giant. I tip my hat to you.

More OT perhaps, but,,,I have a caricature sketch of my Dad done by Walt Kelly when they both worked for a newspaper in Bridgeport, CT before WW II.
