Original Tie Rod Ends

OK Guys,

So I have a question. Last week while the weather was so nice I decided to get some of my piece parts painted for the front end of my 30 Town Sedan. As I was getting the parts prepped I realized that I had put away two different sets of tie rod ends for the car. Looking back I recall buying both sets which were advertised as unused old stock, and they're no doubt unused but I'm pretty sure that one pair is NOS Ford and the other NORS aftermarket. Being pressed for time I decided to go ahead and paint both sets and worry about which was correct later, so now it's later...

The two tie rod ends at the bottom are from the two pairs I painted, and the difference is the orientation of the grease fitting. My guess is that the bottom one is the aftermarket and the middle is original Ford. To add a bit of confusion, I dug through some that my Dad had stashed away many years ago and I found a pair with a nice Ford script on them (pictured at the top). Can anyone shed a little light on the subject for me? Do any of you guys with super original unrestored cars have Ford script on your tie rod ends?

Thanks in advance!

there were 2 types, the grease fittings faced forward from early 28 thru sept 30 and were threaded. From Nov 30 thru the end, the grease fittings faced rearwards and were drive in type. The bolt always faces the rear. I don't know anything about whether the Ford script was on all of them or not.

Thanks Pat,

I know this information is in the Judging Standards but I didn't have my copy handy. Does anyone else know about the script part? If It's not incorrect for my car, I think I'll use them because they look cooler!

I'm sure the Ford script ones you show are original, but like Pat, I'm not sure that they all had Ford script.

It's been quite a few years since I painted mine, and there is too much snow and cold to crawl under the cars right now.

I think the later Ford ends (after 1931 for service) had threaded grease fittings.
