Original radiator mounting pads...

A mystery solved but I'm floored....using junk belting or scrap brake lining at that location? One of the wistful things about looking at contemporary photos is the precise hood alignment the original cars had. And that was based on odds and ends of materials?

that was my thinking when i asked the question of if the material changed the hieghth of the radiator

Hi Walt,

Thanks for the data. It brings two questions to mind. First, are the dates above reversed? If not it would indicate the leather may have been dropped quickly. It seems to me leather would be a poor choice due to the reaction it has to moisture.

Second, does the drawing showing "Electrite" include an "M" number (material spec number)? If so we may be able to find out just what it is.

I was thinking you got the engineering release on A-8125 a few years back. I guess I'll have to try to remember just who it was!

These came off and early '31 Town sedan 30+ years ago. I should have taken a pic of the back side which is flattened and shows the embedded brass wire particles.

I relooked at the material I took out of the Tudor and saw two holes in one of the pads.

I matched the holes up to those on the AA brake shoes and they were a match to the rivet holes on the AA emergency brake shoes.

You are right...It was me and I sent for them and the FORD Archives told me that those Part Releases could not be found at the time.

I have looked in my files for A-8125 and it is nowhere to be found.

Darn! Pluck

See above for comment on A-8125.

Here is something interesting on the A-8125 Radiator Support Pads...

In the February 23, 1928 Indianapolis Service Letters it states: "Starting with shipments of Radiators, A NEW style Lower Support will be assembled which will require 1/8" pad instead of a 1/4" pad, A-8125, which is being used at present".

"These Radiators can be readily distinguished from those requiring 1/4" pad in that they will be marked with a black brush mark on the right side wall".

"There will be no change in the pad, as all pads shipped are 1/8" thick and two were used instead of one".

So there must have been an early radiator that was used BEFORE February 1928 where the "lower support" was different thus utilizing the 1/4" pad instead of the 1/8" pad as in later months.

Has anyone seen such an early radiator as this that took the 1/4" pad instead of the 1/8" pad?
