Original parts

I cannot fathom how some people have the opinion that they have original parts on a 50-70 yr old vehicle. Mainly parts like carbs, fuel pumps, distributors, etc. etc.All parts that probebly have been changed 1/2 a dozen times in that time frame.I just dont understand their frame of mind. End of rant. ken ct.

Ken,
I think my carb and distributor are orignal on our 46. I know the fuel pump has been replaced. The carb may have been rebuilt earlier and I rebuilt it last year with your parts. The dizzy has been rebuilt with NOS Ford points that I supplied. These parts can be rebuilt so I can see why folks say they are original to the car. Are you going on the Fordbarn tour on your cycle??

Ken:

I think your looking at it too micro. I, for one, like to think of it in a more macro view.

For example: No one has the original air in there tires, but when given a choice between an original '32 shell vs. a repop, the original will always have that certain mojo that you just can't from a reproduction piece.

I think when guys say "original", they mean one built by Ford or would have or could have come a particular car. Doesn't have to be that specific car.

See what I mean?

Part ### should tell you. 9199a 1940 carb etc.
Is this not correct?

Travis
Yes that is correct,BUT because it has a 91-99 on it dosent mean that particular carb was on the car as it left the factory, thats all i ment. ken ct.

a friend of mine has had the same broom for 25 years, he said hes changed the brush head 5 times and the handle twice!!

My 49 Ford has the original paint on the dash. I rebuilt the engine with the original valves, just ground them. I also believe have the original water pumps as they are the wide pulley with the oil caps on them as well as the angled inlet connections which were all changed later on. But the carb and fuel pump I cannot swear to.

Numbers correct vs parts correct are two different trains of thought. Not like it is the same part that it was built with. Not much of that left but is still out there

Ken
I think you are right. No one knows if the exact part was on the car when new.
My friend Lewis Safriet sure speaks highly of you.
