Original Glass

When I bought my '28 Sport Coupe, I was 'gifted' with the original glass. There is safety glass in the car now. Is there any point to keeping the original other than it's a good pattern? Really getting tired of moving it around and storing it. I'm already overwhelmed with the original flywheel, clutch and internal engine parts......

If it's in good condition, I'm sure that there is someone who is building a Fine Point car that would be interested in buying it from you.

You know that as soon as you toss the original glass someone will ask you for it for patterns. How about a compromise - make patterns using 1/8” Masonite or plywood? You will only need three - windshield, side window, rear window. Much easier to store. You might offer to give away the original glass to someone who is building a points car.

That's also the reason that I have a transmission for a '55 Chevy truck and a steering column. If you never get rid of them, you'll never need them! lol

I always thought that no points are deducted for safety items (such as; cast iron drums, fuse(s), etc.)

I have a THM-350 I am trying to part with now because I don't want to move it to sweep, and can't bear to junk it since it works just fine. I know how you feel.

I don't even see value in making/keeping patterns. How often do you need replacement glass? Walking into the local glass shop with a pattern will probably end up costing you more than going to one of the suppliers who specialize in replacement glass.

79 years old, Model A owner since 1963, throw the glass away. You’re going to feel better in the long run.

Enjoy.

Unless you really think you are going to do another car like it in the future,I would give them away.In the past I've broken up the plate glass pieces, people might plan to use them for patterns, but wind up using them. It's not cheaper for me to buy from the vendors than a glass place.I saw windshields running around $200,I got my last one for $100.cash and carry from a glass guy.Right now he won't give a firm price unless he has the glass in his shop.He guesses right now it would run me about $150.(tarrifs)But,I can walk in and pick it up,the vendors are quoting $90-$120. to ship.
