Original fan belt

My fan belt which I believe is an original and can be seen in post #4 above, is certainly about 95% brownish in color. There is, however, a section around the Firestone molding that appears "reddish' to me as stated in the Standards.

Hi Ray,

All these belts we've seen the last 30+ years are "seconds". As has been common for many decades, such items that were deemed seconds but still marketable (at a reduced price) were defaced by grinding the name and/or other pertinent information.

What you are seeing is the area where it was ground. I don't know the source of yours but many folks have attempted to hide that by coloring the ground area before reselling and the success level of such efforts varies considerably!

This is what is wrong with the FordBarn-or at least some of it's participants. Someone asks a legitimate question and instead of giving him the answer, he gets largely a lot of drivel about fanbelts without any markings, told to get judging standards, drummed out of the A Corps because he doesn't want a 400 point car, etc. Your 4 posts add nothing to moving the OP or any reader toward an answer.

I'm with PHIL-if you can't contribute positively,stay quiet!

Well said, sir. It could be discouraging for a fledgling Model A owner to have to run a gauntlet of snide, holier than thou remarks to get a question answered. Not all of us have fine points cars or want to. Maybe we just like the antiquity and originality of our cars. Some of this bovine scat might encourage him to go put a SBC in it and drive on.

The defacing by grinding sounds logical to me. I couldn't quite figure out how an apparently slightly used or possibly non-used belt could exhibit
considerable wear in one area only. I probably found this belt at a local swap meet many years ago.

I doubt I will try to restore the brown color to the ground area.

Thanks, Marco, for the explanation.

I am just continually amazed at the insightful information that Marco has and shares with us regularly. Even though I don't have a high points Model A, I really enjoy reading the fine details. Thank you, Marco.

I totally agree, and would like to add that his tone is what makes it so enjoyable. Pure education, no bragging, my stuff is better than your stuff elitist air about him. Bob
