Original 1935 Minesota Plates

Does anyone know if you can use a set of original plates on a street rod or an original car in Minesota? I came across a set of 1935 plates that are in fabulous condition. Obviously these plates have been stored away for decades. Can anyone venture a guess as to what they are worth?

Depoends on state DMV rules - Ct has a "Year of Manufacture" progarm that allows for cross reference / registration to antique plates so you can run the 35 plates on the car - rules vary from state to state so check with your DMV - caution - many DMV employees are not familiar with this area so before you take "no" for an answer - ask for the DMV supervisor in hopes that they know the current rules. I've of-times had to educate the DMV clerk what form to look for!

Re value - depends on demand and how bad someone wants them - check ebay for past transactions - also there are people who trade and restore plates - could run from $50 - $100+ - they are all over the place - nice originals are in demand so don't sell to 1st offer - educate yourself first.

See Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 163.10, covering vehicles registered as Pioneer, Classic, Collector or Street Rod. They can use plates of the year of the car under Subdivision 1g.
Subd. 1g.Original plates.

A vehicle registered pursuant to subdivision 1a, 1b, 1c or 1d may in lieu of being issued number plates by the commissioner display original Minnesota number plates issued in the same year as the model year of the car on which they are displayed. The number of the original plates must be provided to the commissioner. The original plates must be in good condition. Original Minnesota number plates shall not be used if the number on the original plate is identical to a number on any current plate or any other plate in a numbering system used by the commissioner without written authorization from the commissioner. Any person currently using plates issued pursuant to subdivision 1a, 1b, 1c or 1d shall return those plates to the commissioner before substituting original plates. The commissioner shall charge a fee of $10 for registering the number on original plates.
