after reading here about how dangerous an org. A model fan is i took mine off of my 31 coupe and put on a alum. 2 blade fan from mike's.
i have read that the org. fan is more eff. then the after market 2 bladed fan, is that right ?
the org. fan that i took of is in great shape, no crack's, is it worth any thing or is it just a wall hanger? Thank you all.
By the way, it was a pain in the as- to get off.

The original fan does have a good value, especially if it hasn't been cracked or repaired. If it is the later style original fan, it is even more valuable. Don't recycle it. There are still a lot of people who will use the original fan. Put it on the swap meet section. Gar Williams

I've been running aluminum 2 blade fans on all my running Model As for years. They look close to the originals and don't break. Original 2 blade fans are only good for blue ribbon show cars or as wall art. Radiators and hoods are expensive.

Louis,

Would suggest you hang on to the original even if you are not going to use it now. A good straight, no cracks, original two blade fans are not that common. If you get rid of it you will be sorry later.

Page 3-2 of the Judging Standards (revised 1997) describes the fan. "Only two types of fans were used during Model A production. The first, used throughout production was a steel, two-bladed, double thickness propeller type. In March 1931, a single thickness two bladed type was introduced." Gar Williams

I replaced a later single thickness 31 fan on a friends car because the steel began to tear on one side of the junction where it met the double thickness. Very risky to keep running it so I installed a new aluminum one.

Where did you read this, ...and who said it? Are you confusing the term aftermarket with reproduction?

.

I think i read it in model "A" new,s or the restorer.
it was an artical that compaired the org. ford two bladed fan to the alum. two bladed fan and the plastic six bladed as to which one was more eff. the org. ford fan came out on top. it was also discussed here and on Ahooga.
i bought the alum. two bladed fan at Mikes "A" fodable, i dont know what you call it, a after market or a repo??
i drove the car this morning with the new alum. two bladed fan and their is very little vibration compaired to the old steel two bladed fan, with the old fan i use to drive the car at 35 mph, over that their was some vib. with the new alum. two bladed fan 40-45 is very smooth.
