Options for '34 P/U rear bumpers

I know they did not come with rear bumpers but does anyone have any suggestions a bumper on the rear of the truck.
The bed is stock length and I don't want tot shorten it.
Bumper irons would need to be a couple of feet long at least.
Thank you.

I extended the frame on mine by bolting channel iron to it and then a welded piece of channel iron across the two extensions and then bolted a stock 34 bumper and irons to the corssways channel iron.

Maybe consider a '34 passenger car bumper and extend a set of '34 rear car brackets to suit your needs. The bumper would not need to extend out a far as an open tailgate.

Three issues here, the brackets, the bumper itself, and tailgate clearance. The bracket issue is straightforward though not easy, not available original or repro so has to be fabricated. All the bracket has to do is fit the frame and the mounting holes on the bumper.

As to the bumper, I would try to match the front bumper as to style. Repro bumpers are available without the smile 1933-36. Or use 1932 as noted above, or 1937, or 1940 or psudo desoto... your truck your choice.

The tailgate without the chains hooked dropped straight down. The bumper will need to be mounted forward enough to clear (and become ornamental only) or care taken to avoid dropping the tailgate and damaging the tailgate and bumper.

I installed a rear bumper on my '34 pickup. I used brackets from a '34 panel truck. Installation went smooth and I could use a '34 bumper. Bolted right to the frame. Mike

Rear bumpers were available on 112" wheelbase '33-'34 panel deliveries (optional on standard versions and standard on deluxe versions) which have the same chassis frame as that under a pickup as noted above. Likely those extended brackets would be a challenge to find, however.

What about adapting model A style bumperett's and possible brackets???

Here are a couple pictures from Google images. There are not that many '32-'34 pickup photos with rear bumpers. To me, they look best right under the tailgate but then that does not offer any protection.

The '34 pickup I bought in pieces last year had been stored inside since 1970. It was about to become a high tech hot rod when I saved it. I sold off all the high tech billet stuff. The guy had bought a reproduction '34 aluminum bumper to mount on the rear which I kept. I've been trying to decide if I want to use it or not? A '32 bumper might look good? The rear bumper of Bob Bauder's maroon pickup really looks nice. He bought my '33 1 1/2 ton truck that I should have never sold. I always wondered what happened to it?

David is correct about the rear bumpers on 1933-34 panel deliveries. I bought an assembly at the old Harrah's swapmeet in the 1970s. I installed it on my pickup and immediately realized it was too far away from the bed. Since I liked to use the box to haul things and really liked the low loading height with the tailgate hanging straight down I sold the bumper and brackets. Here is a 1934 panel currently on the internet for sale and my original rear bumper and brackets.

Thank you for all the input.
Those panel delivery brackets look like they might work. At least now I know what i need to fabricate.
The truck is done except for wiring, color sanding, and exhaust.
I think it looks naked and unfinished in the rear without a bumper.
