One more try

Hi! Everyone,First I would like to thank everyone that has tried to help me find 1930 commercial Michigan plates, but I just don't understand how, with all the people out there that no one has 1930 commercial Michigan plate set for sale.

Thanks

Dwight from Michigan:confused:

I would like to register the plates with the state, so I don't know if I could have one made. If I had a list of plate collectors in Michigan maybe I could contact them.. I do like the looks of the one on E-bay.

In response to your question about why it is so hard to find commercial plates. I have been looking for 1931 California commercial plates for a couple of years (help anyone). I have looked at swap meets, placed ads, contacted people that sell plates and collectors. So far, no luck. I think the problem is that there were fewer plates made compared to passenger plates. I also assume in a commercial environment the plates were discarded instead of hung on the wall. Then there were the scrap metal drives of World War II that probably affected all of the plates equally. As far as trying to do something with a single plate you would be out of luck in California but maybe Michigan is different. In California you need two original plates and they cannot be restored (although a few people have slipped through the cracks on the restored part).

I found my 31 Texas commercial plates on the second try. The first set did not appear to be restorable. The second set could have been used as-is, but I had them restored anyway. I didn't try to get them registered since I don't live in Texas.

Since you only need one plate to register in Michigan, they don't know that you had the second plate made. While there are pairs out there, I wouldn't expect to find them easily, again for reasons already mentioned. I'm going to use my single commercial plate on my pickup because a pair is not particularly important to me.

Automobile License Plate Collectors Association (ALPCA) is an international club of collectors. There are about 50 members in Michigan listed in the membership roster, any one of whom might be able to help, and the Club President lives in Michigan. I do not wish to post names or addresses in a public forum but the clubs website is alpca.org, and membership is secretary@alpca.org. Truck plates are always hard to find as there were few trucks in those days compared to cars, and truck plates usually led a hard life being usually mounted in exposed to damage mounting location, so were usually thrown away upon expiration.

I belong to the Michigan License plate collectors association. Call Larry Leslie @1810-987-3685 he will have a pair of concourse restored plates at a more than fair price

You must not be looking too hard. I have seen plate vendors with '31 CA COM plates at Long Beach, Pomona, Turlock, ETC.

Chris,

Interesting, I haven't been to Pomona or Turlock but checked everyone selling plates at a couple of recent Long Beach meets (and the Big Three meet last month). Maybe I just don't recognize what I am looking to find. I am looking for the small letters "PC" on the plate. Is this the criteria for a commercial plate as you understand it?
