Planning a road trip from Mass. to Deadwood, S.D. and then on down to Santa Fe in October.
Is there any place I should visit along Rte 80 after leaving Chicago?
Thank you.

You will be in Santa Fe during chile time! Yumm do they smell good as the sellers roast them by the 40 pound sack with blow torch by the side of the road. Nice and cool weather as well! We took a 2 week drive around New Mexico once upon a time and had a marvelous good time of it. Watch out for the Mexican food however. It is all very hot with your choice of red or green chile to liven things up. You will come away with no internal parasites that is for sure! One great thing not to miss is the Chama, NM steam train ride in NE NM. The Acoma pueblo west of Albequerque is not to be missed. You can walk down the ancient pathway with hand holds in the rock on the way down from the pueblo. We enjoyed White Sands National Monument as well. If you want to drive a little further Carlsbad caverns is a site to see.

You can also knock on doors at the Santa Clara pueblo and buy black pots from Indian ladies! The lady we bought a pot from had hands full of flour from baking a pie.

Taos pueblo is not to be missed either.

Santa Clara on left and Acoma on the right.
