Old Power Valves?

Ive been a fan of the Holley 92s for many years and have them on both bangers and V8s and have always picked up kits when they show up. That means there are some pretty old kits on my shelf and in my stable of carbs. Will those power valves waste away on the shelf? I'm talking over 40 years. The same question would apply to most of the three bolt Holleys. Thanks: Fred A

Most stuff made after the war (WWII) had quality synthetic rubber included where applicable. Viton float valve seats came along a little later. Most folks classify the shelf life of nitrile rubber to be near 10 years. Viton & flourocarbon elastomer would be nearer 20 years. The air we breath affects rubber products due to ozone content. If the parts are well sealed in a plastic bags or sealed paper packages (like Parker Seal developed) and in climate controled area then they will last longer but I couldn't tell you exactly how much longer. May work just fine and may not.
