Old-No-Very Old Gas

I thought my tank had 15 year old gas in it and dumped 3 bottles of injector cleaner in. After a few days I drained it out and it was clear, so maybe no old gas, but the theory seemed good. Bulk solvents as mentioned above are probably cheaper.

You will need to also replace your fuel lines and shutoff valve because i would bet that they're full of gunk also. The sediment bowl will need to be cleaned as will the carburetor. It would be best to just do a rebuild on the carburetor. They're simple to do.
I just went through the same situation of starting my car after sitting for an extended period (the car, that is!) with old gas in the system. Fuel lines were so clogged you could hardly blow air through them. It's a wonder the car actually ran!

I had problems with a tank after using the alcohol based gasoline sold at the local gas station. It seems that the alcohol cleaned the tank so well that chunks of build up clogged the outlet to the tank. I put 5 gallons of laquer thinner in the tank for a week rocking the car often and then draining the stuff out. I finished by installing a filter in the top of the tank valve. I worked perfectly. The filter is important to keep any stuff from clogging the little hole in the valve.
