Old age

Lifting the battery is one problem, but even leaning over it to remove the cables can be a pain in the back. I found a set of battery terminal connectors that I simply flip a lever than they come off. They are even color coded. I leave the carrying strap connected and secure it with a piece of velcro. Best wishes for many more years with your A.

it looked like I'd been having an argument with a chainsaw.

could be the next fad........!

LiPo batteries are half the weight and twice the capacity. The prices are coming down. I recently bought two at Walmart for about the same price as a lead-acid battery. The strap that Russell suggested will help, but if needed get someone to help get it out. As far as getting older is concerned, exercise helps a lot. You will need protein in your diet to build back muscle strength. I use the protein supplements because I have a mostly meat free diet. I use a back brace when doing heavy construction work.

I am 82 and my wife and I have worked out for 25 years. I know it keeps me going with pretty good health. We put a gym in my shop when covid closed our regular gym.

I first saw those rubber/plastic straps nearly 50 years ago. I thought it was a great idea and bought it straight away. Since then I have seen all the different configurations but I still use my old faithful.
On old cars they seemed to bury the battery in the worst places.

Tie a loose loop of 1/4" rope around the battery and use that to lower the battery into the car. Leave the rope around the battery in the car so it'll be ready to use when you next need to lift it out.

I replaced my battery with a AGM maintenance free 4 years replacement warranty. It also has a built in strap. At age 69, it may or may not outlast me.

I’ve found over the years that regardless of how “good” a battery you buy (“good” being more or less defined by length of warranty), the best you can expect is about five years. I just had the one for my Tundra fail after 17 months. First time I’ve ever actually gotten a significant warranty reimbursement. 60 month warranty? Don’t pay anything extra for it.

The liPo batteries are supposed to last a very long time, if cared for properly. If I remember correctly, the warranty on the ones I just bought is 10 years.

Using a strap is best....but it is harder on my back because it uses arm and back muscles. I use a strap to raise the battery enough to prop up so I can get my fingers under and then lift with my whole core. Works for me at 81.

Used a battery carrier to pull and place a new battery in the Model A this week. I’m 82 and very thankful for being agile and strong enough to continue keeping the 94 year old car running strong. Good exercise for agility and strength though!
