This may seem very simple and stupid but I was wondering if someone knows how the cam gears are oiled on a (40-41) 24 stud engine. My engine has the original distributer with the oil accessory filter mounted on the left head.

thanks guys.

I believe that the cam gears are oiled from the main oil gallery that runs through the "valley" in the center of the engine. In the front of the galley, there is the oil pressure relief valve consisting of a spherical piece held on its seat by a spring. The spherical portion has two "flats" on the sides which allow a certain amount of oil to leak past. The oil that leaks past is what lubricates the cam gears. There is also a certain amount of oil which is churned up in the oil pan and sprayed off the crank. This is what occurrs as I understand it. If I'm wrong, I presume someone will point out the errors in my thinking. Good Luck with your truck.

Henry that is correct. This oil is also slung from the timing gear to the side of the housing where you will see 2 "catcher cups" these catch the oil and it runs through a hole in the front of the block into the oiler holes in the water pumps and lubricates the pumps. More oil is slung to one side than the other, this side has a small hole so the pumps get an equal amount of oil. G.M.
