Oil return pipe

As I was taking my oil return pipe off and wiping it down it seemed like one of the "cups" on the end was lose. I cleaned it up and sure enough it is. It looks like it was soldered on? Is this correct, was that how they were made or did someone just cobble it up. I can't seem to find any info on this. :confused:
