I need some help identifying this oil pump. it came out of a 46 block. I would like to know is a 50# or 80#. I want to rebuild it but don't know what kit to order.

My 48 with a stock 59AB engine has an 80 pound system. Trucks may be different, but I don't think so.

I'm sure that pump will work fine but I use the 8BA style M-19 pump and truck oil pickup tube in all my engines. That have helical gears and are rated 80# pumps. I put a few washers under the spring in the 59 pressure relief valve. That don't have to work, the valve in the 8BA pump will do all the work. Walt

I have to find a difference with you, Walt...
I want my engines to have tight clearances, lots of volume (The helical geared 8BA pump pushes enough.)
I came to an opinion that about 30 lb. is plenty, after doing some personal research on a Porcshe 356 motor... It had two reliefs, never went over 30 lb... (Had me worried, I was checking a engine -bench start- for a customer and thusly felt responsible).
More pressure to me means HP used to push harder in a place where it could cause more bearing wear, not less...

Just because the pump is called an 80# pump dosen't mean you going to have 80# pressure. Any of those pumps will put out 100# pressure if you plug them right off. Oil pressure depends on clearance all through the engine, rods, mains, cams, ect. The 8BA pump with helical gears will pump more volume and if you have worn bearings it will keep the clearance filled with oil better. It's just a better pump than the older ones with straight theeth. Walt

I've used thes 80 lb??? pumps in all my engines as well. Not sure where the #80 came from, In a pump test rig the relief valve usualy blows before #60. Installed in a stock engine with stock clearances oil pressure runs about 20 thru 50 lbs throught the RPM range. Unfortunately some aftermarket pumps have hi internal losses as well as a loose fit in the block which also steals oil from the bearings. I've stopped using Mellings pumps years ago because their Cr*p. This was discussed a few years back on the original Barn. Mellings may have improved their quality control but original Ford pumps just need cleanng and possably a machined cover or reversed. Also the pump rebuild kits are made by Mellings.

I've found the same results. The relief valve always opens before 60 lb, usually around 53 to 55 on my gauge.
