Oil Pump Removal

I have a 1929 Model A. Pan has been removed, distributor drive is removed, but the oil pump is stuck. Tapping has not budged it. Have soaked the area with solvent for several days, but pump is still stuck.

Any ideas or suggestions for unsticking it? Thanks.

Jim

Have you tried putting a drift down the distributor hole and driving the pump out? Perhaps someone has installed a long bolt where the plug on the side of the engine is, and that bolt is holding the pump.

There is a tool that holds the pump in place when you remove the pan....

You can see it in the lower center on the hump...

Make sure it's not in there!

There should be a short slotted plug there

I find engines with all kinds of bolts and plugs in the hole you mention and some of them are there to hold the pump when the spring on the bottom of the pump is gone or broken. Make sure the pump is not pinned with some bolt there or you will need a new pump if you break it trying to defeat this "farmer fix".

Thanks for your help. The bolt/tool was already out so I tried 2manycars suggestion. Used a small wooden dowel and a brass drift and tapped it out. Seems it was just gunked up to the point of being stuck. Appreciate your suggestions....I'm sure I'll be back with more questions!
