Oil Pump recommendations for 8BA M15 or M19

I'm almost ready to start assembing my 8BA stroker motor and was looking for advice on which oil pump to use. M15 or M19 or something else ? or maybe take apart, clean and check then reuse the fairly recent M15 that was already in it ? Thanks in advance Mike

I would advise the M-19 for a street engine. The M-15 is a high pressure-voluum pump made for a race engine that has alot of bearing clearance. You don't need 80# pressure in a street engine. Walt

When using an M15 the oil pan may need a little massaging due to the oil pump head being a little taller, if the bulge in your pan where the oil pump fits goes all the way to the bottom of the pan it will be okay. I use the M15, not for the extra oil circulating through the bearings and etc but for filtering the oil. I use a vibration resistant needle valve where the oil line to filter comes out of the block (in place of the restriction orifice), when the engine and oil gets to operating temperature I open up the needle valve until I have 50# running oil pressure. Now I have good oil pressure but also a lot more oil going through the oil filter to keep it clean. If the engine starts getting loose, close the valve some and more oil goes through the engine.

Hi Russco; Walt's got it as usual. Ol Ron addressed this in his book. The high volume pump with standard clearences will create heat at the bearing surfaces. Good luck, Craig.
