Oil Pump Pickup/ Pan Issue

Shoebox

Well guys, I'm slowly/carefully assembling the 276 8ba for my '51 Tudor. I did not start with a complete engine, rather building from a collection of parts. Did a trial fitting of the oil pan and something was hitting, removed the oil pickup and the pan seats nicely on the block. Looking through the drain hole and looking at scratches inside the pan and I can see the pickup screen and housing needs to be farther forward, I thought I had the correct pickup but apparently not. Guess I'll look for an oil pickup from a known 49-51 shoebox, any suggestions, comments?

NEXT issue....went to install the oil slinger and sleeve on front of crank. The sleeve looked to be quite the interference fit, H&H has a video showing Mike Herman hammering it on with a brass hammer, I figured my luck I'd get it halfway on and get stuck. So I heated the sleeve up a bit and was happy to see it go on easy. My problem is the sleeve is still loose the next day. Should I remove it, red Locktite it and reinstall or get another sleeve and pound it on? Words of wisdom most welcome! Thanks.

Well, I dug through my old photos and found a pic of my previous '51 V8 build from probably 15 years ago and bingo! there it is, the oil pickup I need. At that time I was actually rebuilding a complete ('53?) engine. So I have posted a "Wanted" ad in the appropriate places. Anyone got one give me a shout. Thanks.

IIRC, on my engine the crank pulley pushes against the sleeve and the sleeve pushes against the cam drive gear. Keeps them all stationary. Loctite on the sleeve to keep oil in.
