Oil Pump Gasket

I don't know. The pumps do have an end ply 'tween the gears and the plate. I'm thinking 0.003 inch. A gasket would make that gap greater.
But every oil pump I ever saw had just the bare end plate and the two gears always left an imprint on this plate.
Once the imprint was pretty prominent then I'd just flip the plate over to the 'new' side and start letting the gears work on leaving an imprint on this new side.
Or grind off the imprint and use the old side again.

It's an oil pump under oil. Who cares if it leaks? No need for a gasket. The tighter the fit the better. Also the more you ask the pump to do in terms of moving more oil under more pressure, than your using up more HP and that robbs performance to the back wheels. IMHO

skip.

On the A&B oil pumps, do you have to use a gasket between the bottom plate and the gears??
I don't use a gasket between the bottom plate and the gears. If the bottom plate shows wear where the gears have rubbed, I turn the plate over or replace it to remove end play. The only time that I would consider using a gasket would be if new repro gears were too long and binding. The thickness of the gasket adds area to the inside of the pump and reduces performance of the oil pump. There was an article in one of the early secrets of speed journal about oil pumps and I believe that this subject is addressed, I think it was in 1994. I would have to look through a stack of books to find the article. It is a good read and tells everything that you would ever want to know about A & B oil pumps and more.
