Oil pump gasket

I didn't receive the gasket for my oil pumps 4 bolt cap with the gasket set. I noticed the old one was very thin, like paper. I was going make one and was curious how critical it is for the thickness it should be and what material to use? I've got drawers full of gasket material, but nothing that thin. Could a guy get away with using a good quality paper, or is that a bad idea?

The gasket thickness will affect output pressure. If it it too thick the space it allows between the gears and housing will let oil to bypass the gears

Agree, the end plate clearance is an important factor in pump efficiency. Hold the end plate against the gears and judiciously measure the distance between the plate and housing with feeler blades. In some pumps there is no gasket needed. Set clearance at about .002 if a gasket is to be made.
