Oil Pump Flow Rate

What is the flow rate of the Model A's oil pump @ 1000 RPM or at any other RPM?

Great question Bob. Ironically, Randall and I were chatting about some things this morning and that was a topic that came up between us. I suggested to Randall that he consider doing a separate video that covers this.

I know that a pump modified to be like a B pump that has the top of the housing modified would peg an 80# pressure gauge on a B engine, ...so the pressure is definitely sufficient out of an A/B pump. I suspect the volume to be around 3 gallons a minute or so, ...which is about 25% of what a good small block Chevrolet pump will displace. And because there is little restriction in the stock Model-A oil galleys, that is about a quart of oil being delivered every 5 seconds.

A friend in Queensland has done those tests as part of his work sorting out a Burtz engine. Go to "L" under "community" and near the top of page 19, you will find "Lawrie". I suggest a PM to him but I think he is away touring in his Model A at the moment.

8cc per rev of the pump is approximately 2 gallons per minute @ 1000 pump RPM. That seems reasonable. Thanks Lawrie.

Let's see, the only country that isn't using the metric system is the only country to have ever put a man on the moon. Coincidence? I think not. :)

...put a man on the moon using a computer (Apollo guidance computer) calculating everything in metric...

and the guys designing the Saturn 5 spoke german...

;-) :p

don't worry, i was only teasing you...

although, you should hear me cursing when i have to calculate! what the next size up is from a 1/2" socket...

This reminds me of the older gentleman standing at the immigration checkpoint in Frankfurt.
The Immigration officer complaining he didn't have his passport ready "have you not been to Germany before?"
the old man responded, "oh yes, I have been here before, we just didn't land....

The computer was neither metric nor imperial, it was binary, and it processed data in 8 bit bytes, which is certainly not metric. I you listen to the Apollo crews as they're landing, they're calling out the altitude in feet!:D
