Oil pressure drop

I HAVE A '37 FLATHEAD. OFFENHAUSER MANIFOLD. 4 BARREL CARB. NO OIL FILTER.
My oil PRESSURE gauge shows 50 pounds when i start cold. As i drive over the next 15 - 20 minutes the pressure SLOWLY drops to zero.
No oil is leaking, and i burn a quart every 300 or so miles.
Could it be a seal? The pump?
What can i do to pinpoint the problem? (do i have a problem?)

300 miles a quart of oil, no leaks, sounds like a tired engine, if no leaks it's not a seal, 50# cold seems the pump is alright, sounds like a lot of worn bearing clearance. How many miles on the engine? Use 20-50 oil and see what it does. Walt

Hey Walt, I'm OK to start, but after 15-20 minutes, I'm tired and worn out also.
Somehow, I don't think 20-50 oil will help me much, ya think?

I dont think its uncommon, mine does the same I asked the question a while ago. Alot came back saying its more about flow rather than pressure...?

Might think to try changing the oil sender, or try a mechanical gauge. I can remember some one going crazy, turned out to be the sender.
