Having a problem with the oil pan hanging up on the starter side on a 59ab, it seems hung up on that side for some reason, any suggestions would be welcome, it dropped down every where but that corner where the starter goes.
make sure that rear bolt on the upper side is removed. if its been on for a while may just need some extra coaxing . the rear seal between pan and clutch housing can make the rear stick more than the rest of the pan
The starter at least on an 8BA has a bracket that attaches to the oil pan for extra support. Could it be hanging on that?

Doesn't the crankshaft on an 59AB have to be
rotated to the correct position to ease the removal of the oil pan?
Otherwise, pan won't "clear" the crank.
one bolt on the top, flat area above the starter, near the back almost to the transmission, got that too? and starter is out?
glad you won the battle. when taking a pan off in the car, i like to leave a bolt at all 4 corners screwed out quite a bit until you can feel that the whole pan is loose, then remove the last ones so you are in control of when its commin down. now for going back in, get 4 4" bolts and cut the heads off. one on each corner will send it up straight and keep the gasket in place
I bought a one-piece Fel-Pro gasket for the oil pan on my '67 Corvette when I replaced the oil pump a couple of years ago. It came with 4 plastic studs with slotted heads with springy tabs on them. You screw them into the four corners of the pan mounting surface on the block and then just push the pan on over them. The tabs allow the pan to be pushed up and when the pan goes over them, they snap out and hold the pan in place. Then all you have to do is put in the rest of the pan bolts and remove the plastic studs with a screwdriver and put in the four remaining bolts. Why am I offering the "Small Block Chevy" tech on "The Ford Barn"? Both of the engine use 5/16 coarse pan bolts. I have used the plastic studs from the SBC Fel-Pro kit on the last two 8BA's I have done and they make installing the pan a breeze. I don't know why they don't supply them with all of their gasket sets.
