Oil pan gasket

Purdy, I don't use a gasket on the water neck either - just a wipe of silicone or permatex is enough and virtually no chance of breaking it.
 
No gasket and just silicone is really the best way to go on the water neck . I haven't broken a single one since I started using that method . Some of the repro water necks are too thick at the mounting flange and the long studs won't reach all the way through the nuts when a gasket is used. No gasket is even more of an advantage in such cases.
