Oil leaks 8BA>

Have new oil pan drain plug & washer but continues to drip, what can I do to stop this? Other leak must be rear main seal as oil drips down face of starter plate; the car is on jack stands with the front end higher at about 20 degrees, is this enough to cause leak, this is a fresh rebuilt engine with only a few minutes on the test stand, where it didn't leak when it was level on the stand?

I think 20 degrees is a lot. The rear mains are not designed to be submerged in oil.

As for the plug, a thicker gasket or some hammer/dolly metal work to true up the mating surface.

engine should be no more than 3 degrees tilted toward the rear end, a level across top of carb throat should show level, either some thing is wrong with the front mounts or the trans mount is wrong

NOSE OF CAR IS ON JACKSTANDS (Says it clearly in 1st post)...FRONT OF ENGINE TILTED UP, REAR OF ENGINE TILTED DOWN (BECAUSE OF JACKSTANDS)...WANTS TO KNOW IF THAT EXCESSIVE ANGLE IS CAUSING LEAK! dd

never park an old (up to 50's) car on a hill. advice my dad gave me with my 1953 Ford Mainline v8. Those old seals will shrink in cold weather and leak too. Keep' em level!!

Leak is a relative term. See some of my posts. My literally almost runs out. I also have a '36 Tudor.

How much drip? Drop every second, drop every ten seconds, size of a quarter overnight, six-inch circle overnight, etc.

I can live with drips.

You could seal your drain plug or use a "pan-saver" if it leaks badly. They make re-threading kits with over-sized plugs.

Mine does not leak when pulled up on ramps (unless the engine is running).

Good luck.

I know this is rare, but could it be overfilled with oil?
Also, on my 8BA I use a big copper washer.

v/8coopman, i read that and i answered the question, you didnt, i said the engine should have only 3 degrees down , and yes to much slant on engine will cause a leak, you should understand what is being said before you post

If you need to be right, you can be right! DD

The drip from the drain plug is very minor, less than quarter size overnight; but I thought there should be no leak. I can live with it. There is no oil filter and oil level comes to the first mark on the dipstick when engine is level. Maybe I'm making much to do about nothing. Appreciate everyone's input. Case solved as far as I'm concerned.

Another mechanic I used to work with claimed, if something had oil in it, it would leak - the only question was - how fast? There are weepers, seepers, drippers, and gushers.

I had a hotrod with a quick change rearend. I was amazed at how "leakless" it was! Absolutely no leak! The 1st weekend out I found out why, no oil. Not a drop! I was about 20 YRO. No excuse but a good lesson...

Oil leak? I thought it was an early form of undercoating.

I was told once a lot folks would drive like a bat out of hell on a fresh chip & seal country road so it would cover the bottom of the car or truck - act like under coating. I could that out the hard way - my 1st car '41 Plymouth coupe - spent the whole summer of my junior year scraping the under side of it. She didn't have any rust in the floor boards or trunk.
