Oil leak

Helping a friend start up his recent purchased T fire engine. Once started, a large oil leak appeared where the started attaches to the hogshead. I am basically an A model guy and have little experience inside the T model oiling system.

First check the bendix cover on the rear of the hogshead. then check the starter bolts. if they are ok it likely is the seal between the hogshead and the engine. Never try to remove starter without first removing the bendix.

When a Model T engine is running most of the oil is being slung around the flywheel so even one of the small screws that hold the bendix cover on can put out a lot of oil if it's missing. The screws that hold that cover on are a non standard thread so you can't just run to the hard wear store to get one. Snyders, Lang's or if there is a T parts supplier close should have them.
