Ok, here is the deal, I purchased my car a little over a year ago and it had 1100 miles on sense its restoration, I now have close to 6000. It has from the day I brought home leaked oil out the rear main, it was real apparent climbing the mountain road to my house which will rise in elevation about 1000ft in just over a mile. So it is a rather steep climb back whenever I take the car out. If I left the house and the oil was on the full mark upon returning home I would leave a trail of oil up my driveway, not a lot but enough to track. I would than park the car and a rather large puddle would than form on the floor over night…about 12 or so inches in diameter.
If I drive down the hill and make several stops during the day it would only drip one or two dime size spots so I attribute the bigger loss of oil at home because of the steep climb back. I also found that after the oil reached a certain level (about 3/8s of an inch below the full mark) the amount of oil that leaked out was greatly reduced, in fact I probably only added about a half a quart between 1000 mile oil changes if I kept it a little below the full mark so this was of little concern to me.
Now here is the problem, on my last oil change I filled it to the full mark but figured it would just run out on my next trip home and all would be good. After two trips out and about a hundred miles or so to my surprise the oil has stop leaking, oh it will leave a drip or two but for the most part has quit and the oil remains on the full mark. I am now wondering if I have a problem, why it would just stop leaking. It runs fine and remains a very quite engine but I am concerned that maybe the oil is not now getting to where it is suppose to.
