Rear main started leaking really bad on the flathead. This is a French flathead rebuilt by the French. Pulled the pan and found the cork gasket around the rear main completely dried up. It was so bad we thought it was plastic until I broke it and found the cork.
The only thing I can think happened was the cork dried up in storage. The engine was dyno'ed, fresh oil put in and sealed up in 92. I got it in 2002 and put it in the 31. Next time, I will take a stored engine apart and check the gaskets.
Also, I replaced the bottom half of the front & rear seals.
