Oil in the odometer

What Bob said. I read that some repro cables had the outer layer of the inner cable wound the wrong direction and as a result it spun the oil up to the speedometer, just like a grain auger.

I've seen guys unhook the cable from the speedo & squirt motor oil down into the cable housing:eek:!! The Dog:cool: jist sed, "THAT'S A NO, NO, NO, NO------------!!!

I mix motor oil with powered graphite on a piece of cardboard. Then put a clean speedo cable on it so it sticks to the cable, reinsert and drive away.

Thats how I was taught to do it in Auto Shop 53 years ago.

Another source for oil in the odometer. Years ago I over greased the U joint of my model A and I had grease squirting out the top end of the speedo cable. Maybe his U joint was also over greased and the grease was forced up his speedometer cable? Just a thought.
