Oil filter

My pickup with a B engine has an oil filter that is using oil from the hole in the block by the oil pump shaft. Is it ok to use this for the filter or is it starving the engine?

On the Studebakers with a bypass filter, they use an orfice with a .040" hole for the oil line feeding the filter. This will maintain good pressure to the engine while still allowing some oil through the filter.

Are we talking a by-pass filter or a full flow filter here?
I have a B engine in my Tudor which takes the oil from a hole in the side of the block and returns it a little higher up with no restriction other than the filter itself. Obviously a full flow filter. If the return from the filter was straight back to the sump, the engine would starve for oil - a totally different scenario.

Use your filter, it will not starve the engine for oil. Much more oil goes straight to the valve galley than you can imagine.
