Oil Dipstick Length

What is the correct length for the dipstick. From hilt to end mine is 8 3/4 inches. I notice if I don't fill to the "F" mark I don't get nearly as much rear main leak.

UPDATE!!!

I purchased a new dipstick for the coupe to compare. The pictures show the original on top and the new replacement on bottom. There is a almost a half inch difference in length from the hilt to the bottom of the dipstick. So the original show a little under F and the new part shows over F. I have never seen the original dipstick on another A in the club.

:rolleyes:I don't want to brag but mine is 9- 3/16'' total lenth.:eek:..From the TOP of the letter [ F ]to the base of the letter [ L] its 1- 5/16".
 
I have three. One is 9-1/4" total lenght and 1-1/2" from F to base of tip. Two is 9-1/8" total and 1-1/4 from F to base of tip. The third one is about 6" if im lucky.
 
Stick length appears to be a problem, and, not just with our Model As.. While changing the oil, add your 4 1/2 qts and mark the stick..
