Oil Can

I have seen a few Model A's with an oil can mounted on the fire wall above the starter motor. I am curious if this was standard or an aftermarket item?

Oil cans were supplied with the early As as part of the tool kit until 5/28 per the JS. They are shown in the early parts book. As far as I can determine there is no specific clip with a part number provided to mount them on the firewall. The clips were either T carry over or an aftermarket piece. I have two different styles.

I'll add a little bit of oil can "lore" I read once. The Model-T oil can spout screwed inside the threaded portion of the can and the Model-A oil can spout screwed on the outside of the threaded part of the can.

Bob-A, that brings up a good point. I've heard there were supposed differences in the T and early A cans, size of script, etc, etc. Maybe Don Turley will see this and post. I was thinking of also contacting Gary Johnson about it as well. If anyone else knows anything please post.

That is interesting about the internal and external threads because I have one of each and I was wondering what the difference was. The script is in a slightly different location also. I will post some pictures later today.

other than script, no markings on either can ... one on left has a light coat of copper plating

I had written down, Female on cap Model A, Male on cap, Model T, this was from a post by Don Turley earlier, hopefully he an confirm this.
