The easiest way (IMO) is - https://www.classictbird.com/Dry-Element-Conversion-Kit-1955-1-Per-car/productinfo/9601XK/
To modify any other way is destroying the OEM ACL ASSEMBLY ($$$) (and again IMO).
The 1955 and 1956 ACL bases are different as to allow for the 1956 4000 choke housing clearance. If this kit is used on a 1956 ACL BASE, the ACL FILTER ELEMENT will become misshapen-ed.

The larger the filter element, the less restriction on air flow.
I bought a replacement top cover as the original has a couple of dents in it. Is there a way to use the new cover with a paper filter with the existing base?
This is for a 55 T-bird.
