Oil air breather

Restoring a '29 Tudor. The crankcase vent tube that fits on the top of the oil filler pipe looks like someone has put some electrical flexible conduit onto the fitting that goes onto the filler tube. I wonder if this is what Henry used, or if someone has cobbled something up. Was it painted or plated?

Thanks, Ron

all henry used were baffles in the breather ,oil fill pipe, i think ford changed the design of the baffels in the tube 3 times to try and stop the oil coming out of the breather cap ,late 30 or early 31 was the last time it was modified, then i think they just gave up, lol there was an after market cap with a long flexible pipe on it that went down past the back of the engine to direct the fumes and oil splatter away from the fire wall

That was an aftermarket accessory. These were fitted to carry fumes from the oil breather down and out below the car.

The Fumaze is the nicest of the after market draft tubes. The flex tube was sold through Western Auto, Pep Boys and such and was cheaper.

A quick fix without restricting the breather is a gym sock over the filler tube and cap. When you get where you are going take it off. When it gets saturated throw it away and use the other sock :D.

Thanks for all the input, appreciate it. Turns out the fine gentleman who did my engine put this on and I had forgotten about it. He saw the post and called me to ask if there was a problem. None at all, I just forgot that he gave it to me when I picked up the engine. My main question was what color to paint it. I guess I'll just paint it black. looks like senility is beginning to creep up on this young man of a mere 73!

Thanks again for all the input.
