Odd spare tire lock?

This "crowner" goes underneath a rear spare tire carrier bolt like a washer and folds over to prevent a thief from simply unbolting the entire carrier and spare if there was a lock on the spare locking lug. I have one of these on my '29 coupe.

While on the topic of Wheel Locks, can someone tell me how this one mounts? Is a special wheel stud required to fit through the back? My lug nut is too large to fit inside, and I cannot figure out how the inside locking pin would engage it. Also, would this one be an aftermarket item, or a Ford Dealer accessory? Not an urgent issue as I do not have a key for it. Thx!

The part on the back (opposite the side with the key slot) has a 90 degree bend where it goes into the main body of the lock. You can see the bend in your pictures. The part that you can't see - the part that is in the lock itself - has a slot cut in it. When you turn the key, it turns a finger that engages the slot and releases the "L" shaped piece. Now you have two pieces. The lug nut tightens against the "L" shaped piece and holds it tight. Place the lock part over the lug nut and turn the key, which puts the finger into the slot. Not the most technical explanation, but I hope it helps.

I wonder if there is some way to find out how many different keys were made for these locks or if there is a way to see what would fit your lock? My lock pictured above is in fact made by "T & A" yet curiously I have an exact duplicate lock on my Model T spare tire and it was made by the "TireLox" company out of Chicago, Illinois. Though both units look the same the keys are different sizes and of different shapes. It would not be "period" but you can buy brand new units on Ebay for $4.99 + shipping. Look under "Tire Locks" or "Spare Tire Locks".

I just went to our local locksmith to inquire about making a key for the spare wheel lock, and he said it would take too long to match up. More annoying was that he just wasn't interested in the old piece or the drawings that Mustang posted.
So the patent filing was Oct 6, 1932. My lock has no dates or patent number. Could it have been sold before the patent date? Heaven forbid I put an accessory on a 1931 vehicle before it was even around.
