Obtaining the best help.

I can't find it now but there was a thread a while back that had a list of things to put into a post to get the best answers. I hope someone can find it and add it to this one.

To put it simply we need a clear concise question.

There was a recent post that had a title and body that had little to do with guys real enquiry and it took some reading between the lines and comments that were taken out of context and read as insults.

If you want to know about how to rebuild a carburetor then ask "How do I rebuild a carburetor? In the body you can give us some details as to what make and model carb you have and maybe even why you think you need to rebuild it at all.

If you start off with something like "poor gas mileage" and "what you you guys get?" it could take some time before you get your "true" answer.

good luck with all that as it has been mentioned many times before already::
This falls inline with I HAVE NO SPARK but what is not mentioned it has electronic ignition for example...
It's the nature of a forum and won't change

You have a good point, but the chances of that happening are slim. This forum has users from all over the world, with a large variety of education, and a wide range of language skills. Some people do not speak, or perhaps think, in the clear, consise manner that you are hoping they will. They do the best they can.

Mike: I appreciate your attempt to help those who do not focus their titles when asking for help. This shows your genuine desire to help and make this forum most useful. Who knows, maybe there will be some who will benefit from your advice. Thanks for all your valuable posts. There are many people here that are such a help to the rest of us that may not be as knowledable. We need you guys.

I concur with you 100% and I might add that, especially among the English speaking world where English is the primary language spoken, same words might have and do have totally different meanings which will make anyone alter their use of certain words in their conversations and descriptions.

There are 50,684 user accounts on the Ford Barn, the odds of getting all to submit a question/request in the same manner/format is not possible --it would take an online request form that is programmed to require the needed information in the desired format... (Think of online sales etc...)

Also, keep in mind there are a lot of users that are Mechanics only --that's a good thing for us who are not but they are likely not as sharp computer wise just as I am not sharp Mechanic wise (in the process of learning...)

We all read and interpret the different word in a different fashion. If we read things exactly the same we would not have 9 folks in black robes telling us what our constitution says.

Some of us mechanics also are well versed in computers. I am a certified master automobile technician, who operated my own restoration shop for over 25 years, and I also built computers from parts, and built and now maintain my own web site, which has been up since 1995. www.brauchauto.com

Without wanting to sound insulting towards our American friends, it seems strange to me to hear an American saying this after the way they have massacred the English language. In addition to that, the standard of expression I see in some posts here is appalling. That said, I'm not an expert in English (which probably makes it worse) and I'm afraid I'm seeing more and more of it over here too, especially in the media. Many is the time I have refrained from posting to correct the worst examples.

So you're "not a Mechanic Only" --nice website by the way...

Having spent more years overseas than in my own country, I agree with you more than you know....................;) but there is exceptions, the amount of foul language used daily in the everyday conversations in Scotland and Ireland makes us yanks look like angels!!!

MGB forum..... Q. My car won't start, what do I look for ?

10 pages of suggestions later, it was confirmed he had no gas in tank.

True story a few years back, when I was playing with MGB/s.

It takes both sides to be specific.

Recently I talked of a problem with a 39 ford box in the heading.

In the thread I talked of having problems with 2nd and third gears and forks and synchros.... even then I had guys questioning me if I talking of a steering box or a gearbox !!!

Seems you have to dot every ! and cross every T to get the message across to everybody.

31, I have met several Americans in various places around the world and have spent some time in the US. I have found them to be super polite people and easy going. I believe we are the same, maybe that's why we get on so well. The American version of English had its origins a long time ago so it isn't the fault of those abut today. It is never-the-less, a pity that the differences are not diminishing.

Response #10 has merit.

Have no idea where we are headed with English; however, it gets humorous at times in our some of public schools.

We have teachers who join teacher's unions who lobby to keep teachers on board with tenure ... no matter what ......... some, after they forgot their A,B, C's ..... or maybe for some ... who never knew their A,B,C's.

I do not master English either; but, I heard of a multiple choice test given to students about (5) years ago where the teacher argued with a principal about an answer because she thought it was perfect English for a student to say:

"I brang my lunch to school."

Clearly incorrect. It should have been:

"I brung my lunch..." Bring, Brang, Brung
