O-ring for universal joint seal...

Some time ago I saw someone selling big fat O-rings to seal the spherical joint at the universal joint instead of the strips of cork that come with the gasket sets. Any experience here? Seal better than the cork? Reusable? Thanks.

Used one for a year now 3000 miles worked great and is reusable just took original trans out to put in overdrive and is reuseable like they say

Great! Looks like they work good. Now, who can tell me who sells them. I think I saw them on EBay?

There is one on ebay now, item # 190328848214

Thanks for the heads up, I just bought one of them. Now to replace the "Cheesy" cork that I just put in. I never felt good about it in the first place!

The guy who sells them, touts them as being made from the same material as the hatch seals on the Space Shuttle. No kidding. They work really well.

Anybody know what size vaccuum tubing to use and how big a diameter should you form it to ?

the "spaceship" tubing that i received from the guy in Ohio (hotrod john) is 3/8" O.D. and approx. .125" I.D.. he probably laughs every time he ships some of this "special" tubing out. it doesn`t look like anything other than the vacuum tubing that your local auto parts store has.

Ol Hot Rod John (planejain038) is still at it. He is a good source for stainless swan type shifter levers & top shifter tower repair kits and has been for quite some time now.

I saw him at Hershey. He's got a bunch of really neat stuff, including steering boxes for 'A's and '32s with all the later roller internals. He's a smart man and a great entrepreneur.

For years I've run a strip of gland packing instead of the cork, I've re-used it every time I've had the trans out, and it doesn't leak a drop! Brian
