I believe you will not find any definitive information in regard to the stamped numerals.
These have shown up on other years, other models. I have yet to uncover anything other than theories; no proof nor documentation.

In the late 40s, Ford started to stamp some basic body information on the firewalls of the Bonus Built trucks starting in 1948. Codes were put into the chassis parts catalogs for them but I don't know if they did that on passenger cars yet. Different assembly plants did thing differently in that respect until it was set as common procedure.

Bought a 32 Ford sedan project a few years ago that came with a clean Iowa title. I traded it to a man in Missouri and it turned out the VIN number matched the numbers on the patent plate rived to the firewall. He said it sailed right thru. Never saw that before.

That's "funny" as the VIN number was NEVER integral of the patent plate.
The VIN was never stamped on the body plate either.

Several years ago I bought some yard art Model A fenders from a guy who was selling Model A parts and complete cars. Mainly down under. I asked how he dealt with engine serial numbers that didn't match what was on the frame since it's under the body. He pointed out a "vin" number plate riveted to the body. Said the plates were available online and never any issues with the numbers being accepted. WTF?

Easy for me to understand... the person at the DMV didn't understand.
