NOT Model A----the back nine

You know ... time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams.

But, here it is... the “back nine” of my life and it catches me by surprise...How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go?

I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that “I was only on the first hole” and the “back nine” was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting gray...they move slower and I see an older person now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me...but, I see the great change...Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd become.

And so...now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though I’m on the “back nine”, and I'm not sure how long it will last...this I know, that when it's over on this earth...it's over. A new adventure will begin! Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done...things I should have done, but indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not on the “back nine” yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether you’re on the “back nine” or not!

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!

"Life" is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one. LIVE IT WELL! ENJOY TODAY! DO SOMETHING FUN! BE HAPPY ! HAVE A GREAT DAY Remember "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. LIVE HAPPY IN 2014!

LASTLY, CONSIDER THIS: ~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect! ~Going out is good.. Coming home is better! ~You forget names.... But it's OK because other people forgot they even knew you!!! ~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything.... especially golf. ~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore. ~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep". ~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch.. ~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"...” ??? ~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere. ~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless"?!!! ~What used to be freckles are now liver spots. ~Everybody whispers. ~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear. ~~~But Old is good in some things: Old Songs, Old movies, and best of all, OLD FRIENDS!!

It's Not What You Gather, But What You Scatter That Tells What Kind Of Life You Have Lived.

TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE, SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.

Ross you have summed up the realty of life in a perfect synopsis. Old age has caught all of us grey hairs way quicker than we could have imagined when we were twenty. The aches and pains are a regular part of all of our lives and speed is certainly a past thought for many of us in our daily lives. Thank you for a wonder statement . Best to you

Thanks, but this was sent to me so I have nothing to do with penning it. It does sum up my life now that I've reached SS age.

You said it-or some else did! I am 'middle aged' now and am lucky that I can still get around and do things fairly well. Maybe not as well as in my 20's but I still not bad. The main thing where I see it is in my eyes. I have had bad eyes from the get go but within the last year they have REALLY gotten bad. That is my reminder of my age.

YES! My life is WHIZZING by, It's the bank's fault, they E-Mail my bank statement every 2 weeks! GREEN manannas turn BLACK, 'afore I have time to peel them!!! MOLD grows on left-overs in 3 NANO-SECONDS!! BUT, the ONLY thing I do QUICK, is sneeze & F**T!! Every time I consider finishing Vermin, it's time to cook & eat, AGAIN!!

At least you're on the "back Nine". I feel like I'm already in the clubhouse! You're so right. It goes fast.

Ross,
That really describes it. I'm 76, pushing 77 hard and I do move more slowly, but I AM GOING TO FINISH my 1929 RDSTR PU. Just slower.

LOL

I had to laugh at this one! I once met a duffer (anybody older than me) at a swap meet and we talked for a bit. I run into him 7 years later and he remembers my name and what we talked about. I remind old friends of stuff that happened when we were younger and they have absolutely no recollection of things I remember perfectly. I pull out photographs to remind them and they still don't remember it. Sheeesh!

Hey Guy's,

"I AM GOING TO FINISH VERMIN" Just as soon as one of my "mornings" cooperate:confused: It takes my body & my emotions 'bout 3 hours to get going:eek: (WITH THE HELP OF MY ANTI-PAIN PILLS) Fortunately, I just have a list of light duty, FUN things left to do.
I miss Pat, she NEVER NAGGED! The Dog's:cool: under my desk, mumbling, "Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, ur the next day, ur the day after Tuesfriday, ur after I arrange the wurkbench, ur after I find my 1 1/4" 6 point deep socket, ur the day after the GROUNDHOG "thing", ur, "We can't do it on SUNDAY, cuz it probably wouldn't even crank on the LORDS day"!

Getting old is not without it's perks:
My parents always taught me to respect my elders. Since I no longer have any elders, I don't have to respect anybody!

NO! Jeff, they were going to drive behind the trees & "make out"!
One night a lady friend tied her Dogs:cool::cool::cool: to Vermin's ZIP-A-RAK & sat with me while I was "doodling" with my gas guage------"Sure couldn't do any SERIOUS makin' out in this thing"-----"Jist wait 'til I whirl my shifter out of the way"-----She quickly retrieved her Dogs:cool::cool::cool: & disappeared in the DARK:eek: Bill W.

Another perk: Because I'm old folks think I'm probably "senile" & so, they don't expect much from me! And they don't borrow stuff 'cause they think I couldn't even find where I put it!

(OH! And, I'll NEVER go to another reunion, my 50th one was SO DEPRESSING----Them folks were all so OLD & UGLY!)

Haha i feel old turning the big two six this coming February...

Yea my grandma is up there and gets frustrated she cant do things she used to be able to do 20 years ago. I made her smile when i told her i cant do things i could do 20 years ago either haha. More like "ow" or "was that supposed to pop?" but i still have plenty of young dumb and stupid in me and plenty more to go!

I take all of your guys' wisdom (and guys i work with) on not just model A stuff but anything. We lost my dad from cancer a week after his 60th birthday, he never got to enjoy retirement and travel with my mom like they wanted. It was a major reality check to live every day like its your last and yes its wise to plan for the future but to me that doesn't mean work 6 7 days a week just to squirrel away money you may never get a chance to enjoy. I was raised to make do with what you have and learned the value of a dollar but its equally important to take time to relax and see the world. Theres more to life than money and things: friends family and memories are some of the best things anyone can ask for.

Or a quote that i was told by one of my "elders" at work today was: why fart it and waste it when you can burp and taste it... OK yea not EVERYTHING you elders say is golden wisdom haha.

Bill,

I do some genealogy research some mornings on the computer, or write some fiction, then after breakfast about ten I TRY to really get motivated. I charge along until about one thirty and then ave a snack and take a snooze and go back it it until five or six. I tried continuing to "start the day early with a bang", but found that by one p.m. I was through for the day.

Just got up and took 4 advil's, drank my glass of malox, put on my depends and my glasses, limped over to my computer and read this.:p What a way to start the day. Life don't get no better than this. :rolleyes:Thanks Ross.

Went by 78yrs just 5 months ago and can't do but 40% of what the past years were! Just do a little and sit for five anymore! Got a real nice 31 tudor that was only out twice, again, this summer. Have decided to let the little car go to somebody younger! When ya get to this time-in-life, it's real easy how society come up with the figure of 65yrs for retirement. Got lots of new-old parts and good old stuff also if anyone is interested, even a spare engine rebuild is started. Had a stroke a couple years ago and never got back to it! binkbee@twc.com in southern KY.

binkbee, sorry to hear about your limitations but I hope that you are optimistic about your Model A legacy.
