Not eV-8 : new tires

I am fogaffied about new tires. I ran over debris from a previous crash and destroyed a OEM Firestone with 80K on it. 2005 Chevy Tahoe which I run hard and plan to keep another 5 years. Many long trips happen.

Safety is #1 for me.

I am trying to understand what a "Club Tire" is by Michelin? Apparently this is a new release called Michelin LT2. BJ's and Costco offer them. Lower price but how about safty? (Specs are on the Michelin web site, but hard to find.)

Saving money is good only if the tire stands up to my driving.

My local tire shop, where I do business for 25 years and trust, feels Cooper Discover CTS give the best safety for the $.

Thanks,
Clem

I've always had good luck with cooper's. And the next guy that post's will say he's had bad luck. Just like when someone asks what kind of oil to use, ot ****** fluid. The answers are many and varied.

I understand Michelin bought out Goodrich and is keeping the Goodrich name because it is so well known.

There is something to be said about sticking with a tire shop or mechanic that you know and trust. If there is a problem, hopefully they will stand behind their product and treat you right.

A tire that lasted 80K on a Tahoe must have been made of very hard rubber!

The "Club Tire" thing sounds like a tire made for sale only thru discount outlets? i.e., price more of a concern. I've had very good luck with BFG tires, but mostly the T/A Radial types. Cooper is a Goodyear tire, isn't it?
